When trying a new brand for the first time, I’ll typically buy an eighth and see how that goes. I do this for multiple reasons, but the main two are: first, in my opinion, just a gram or pre-roll isn’t enough to fully gauge a strain. I want to be able to sit with it a few times and really soak it in. I want to break it up, roll it, smoke it a few different ways, and really get the full experience. Second, if I’m not crazy about it, I’m not stuck with too much of anything that I don’t enjoy. With that said, this is one of the few times that I wish I had gotten a quarter instead. Let’s get into it…

High Grass Premium Packaging

First, the packaging. High Grass Premium eighths come in jars, and this is where they score their first points with me. Not only are they using a higher-end packaging structure, but they do it with class. The jars are glass, not plastic, and are beautifully finished in matte black with what feels like a soft-touch finish, though it could just be a very high-quality matte paint. Either way, it’s a nice tactile experience for the customer. As someone who has worked in branding and packaging, this does a lot for the product before it’s even seen. There are a few things I would have done differently, like a foil-stamped logo instead of a label, which would give the consumer a much better feel for the high-quality finish that was used. The other thing that stands out to me is the faux wooden cap. I would have personally done one of two things: I would have done a real wooden cap with the plastic liner component to keep the child resistance requirement met, or I would have done a soft-touch finish on that as well. The only reason for this would be to keep the high-end feel all the way around. The all-plastic cap looks great but feels a little cheap in hand. Do I understand COGs and all that good stuff, yes. But in my opinion, if you are going to go higher-end, go all the way. Most people probably won’t notice, but consumers looking for a more premium experience definitely will. Other than that, they nailed it.

Now, let’s get into the good stuff, both figuratively and literally. I’m going to be 100% honest when I say I was a little nervous when I first took out the nugs to look at. Not that it looked bad by any means at all, but it did appear to be pretty dense, which isn’t always necessarily a bad thing. I just have a preference for lighter, fluffier buds. I will also be the first to admit when I was wrong, and in this case, I was. Was it denser than my preference? Yes, but it broke up beautifully. I was able to get a really nice, chunky, but still fluffy grind. A 0.5g nug was perfect when broken up to roll a joint for myself.

Otherwise, visually, this is a very nice-looking bud. It has a nice green coloration, with hints of purple, reddish-orange hairs, and is covered in a beautiful frost of trichomes. The aroma hits hard, especially right after breaking it up. It has a sweet, but earthy and gassy smell. Almost like if you took some real fire and used that to make a Sour Patch Kid. That candy-like sweetness carried over into the flavor as well. The way I would describe it would be if a red Sour Patch Kid were heavily infused with some gas. I found it very enjoyable.

On to effects, I found this to be a very relaxing strain. I did have a nice boost of inspiration to write and do a few other artistic things. The nice thing about this, for me at least, was that I was able to be creative and enjoy it. I wasn’t judging everything so harshly, and it all just flowed naturally. As someone who struggles to ‘turn their brain off,’ this strain really helped me settle into the moment. It was nice to turn on my Spotify and just do my thing. As the high settled, it was a bit more sedative but didn’t put me to sleep. Could it have if I had smoked more, for sure, but that wasn’t the goal this time. I will say that if you struggle with sleep, this strain could be helpful.

So, would I recommend High Grass Premium’s Bickett OG? Absolutely. If you enjoy flavorful flower paired with a relaxing, creative, easygoing high, this is definitely one worth checking out.
